A sunflower turns to face the sun. In Japanese it is called himawari. That is where our name comes from. FACE A BRIGHTER FUTURE. It is the phrase we keep coming back to.

In my twenties I went to the Philippines on my own. I was the foreigner there, the one looking for a room. I could not catch even half of what people said to me, and I could not read the contract in front of me. All I had to go on was the face of the person showing me around. In the end, that is what a home search comes down to — whether there is someone you can trust. I learned that there.

After that I traveled through about forty countries with one backpack. A roof over your head. Running water from the tap. What counts as ordinary changes from one country to the next. I felt it firsthand, over and over.

Looking for a home is not all fun. The money. What life will be like once you move in. The worries come one after another.

So we start with what concerns us about a place, before we get to the good points. If something does not sit right with us, we say so. You do not have to decide on the spot.

Once every worry is out on the table, there may still be a place you look at and think, “This is where I want to live.” We stay the partner who keeps looking for it with you.

If you have come from overseas to look for a home in Japan, we work the same way. I once looked for a home in a country that was not my own. What I felt then is probably close to what you are feeling now.

Through this work in real estate, I want to see as many smiling faces as I can. A sunflower turns to face the sun; we turn to face them. I look forward to the day we meet.
